Best of 2011
OUR FAVORITES OF 2011:
Hayes Carll : Kmag Yoyo (and other American Stories)This guy’s music makes me happy. For folks who like Jerry Jeff, Guy Clark,
Steve Earle and Townes Van Zandt. Great songwriter and a marvelous twangy voice.

Lucinda Williams : Blessed
Lucinda Williams : Blessed Lucinda puts out so many records that it can be difficult to keep them straight.
While “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road” remains her greatest album, “Blessed”
should not me missed.

Paul Simon : So Beautiful Or So What ![]()
Paul Simon set the bar so high with “Graceland” and has released some lackluster
albums since then. This album is a home run; his best album in 20 years.

Gillian Welch : Harrow and the Harvest

The Black Keys: El Camino
Ry Cooder : Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down
Steve Cropper : Dedicated
Jen Tucker: Something That I Didn’t Do
James Carter Organ Trio: at the crossroads
Gillian Welch : Harrow and the Harvest This record is so good. Gillian and David Rawlings have a way of making music
sound so effortless and joyous. Eight years since her last album; this record is a
timeless classic.

Tom Waits: Bad As MeThis record starts out good and ends great. “Last Leaf” and “New Years Eve”
are classics. Spend a couple extra bucks and pick up the “deluxe” version; a few
extra songs and larger print!

The Black Keys: El CaminoThe Black Keys rock. They are retro and modern at the same time. 11 songs under
4 minutes each. It’s like a 38 minute speeding car ride with your crazy uncle.

Ry Cooder : Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down Ry Cooder is back with a great album. All the elements of Classic Cooder: blues, folk,
ragtime, norteño, rock, and country. Great songs, including the scathing “No Banker Left Behind”.

Steve Cropper : DedicatedThis is a tribute to R&B and doo wop act, The 5 Royales. It features versions of the groups most enduring songs, with duets by Steve and Lucinda Williams, Bettye LaVette, John Popper, Sharon Jones, and
Steve Winwood. Big fun!

Jen Tucker: Something That I Didn’t DoFrom Sonoma County. Laid back folky songs. Jen has a nice voice, good arrangements.
This record will grow on you.

James Carter Organ Trio: at the crossroadsThe pride of Detroit. James Carter is my favorite living sax man. Organist Gerard Gibbs
keeps things funky and soulful.
